Rozelle House was originally a mansion
house at the centre of a country estate
built in 1754.
As the town of Ayr and village of
Alloway had grown around the estate, and
the estate had become increasingly
expensive to run, the Hamilton's of Rozelle
gifted the mansion, and grounds to the
people of Ayr in 1968 to be used for
culture and recreation.

At the rear of Rozelle House is a cafe
with outdoor seating. The gardens at the
rear also contain a number of modern
sculptures, a popular spot for lazing
around on sunny days.

Art Gallery is situated in these
buildings.

The Maclaurin Trust was established
following the bequest of Mrs Mary Ellen
Maclaurin, who died in 1971, and who wished
to have an Art Gallery or Museum erected
within the Royal Burgh of Ayr in memory of
her husband, James Henry Maclaurin. The
Maclaurin Gallery opened in June 1976, and
offers a rare chance to enjoy a wide range
of works from local, national and
internationally acclaimed artists.

half miles north.
