Montgreenan House is set in fifty acres of
gardens and parkland, 4 miles east of
Kilwinning. For hundreds of years, Montgrynen,
or Mountgrainen Castle, was the seat of two
noble Scottish families, first the Ross's and
later the Cunningham's.
Montgreenan House
The building which occupies the site today
is a Georgian mansion boasting magnificent
architectural features by Alexander 'Greek'
Thompson. It was built in 1817 for Dr Robert
Glasgow as a family home.
Montgreenan House was operated as a country
hotel by the hotel chain Best Western for a
number of years. Not sure what the house is
used for today.
