There are many Mansion Houses throughout Ayrshire, set in scenic estates. These houses were built on lands, where in most cases, old castles/tower houses were the original buildings on the land. Driving through Ayrshire, you will see areas of woodland with large trees, many imported centuries back. These areas normally have a mansion house in the centre of the woodlands.

Famous architects such as the Adam's were commissioned to design and overview the construction of these buildings. Some of the houses are now used as hotels, public galleries and education facilities. Others remain as intended, exclusive residences rarely viewed by the public, surrounded by woodlands well out of sight from passing roads.
