Right is a view of B734 road from Girvan
leading to the small village of Barr. This road seems to be about
five miles up to the top of the Hadyard Hills then three miles downhill
into Barr as seen right. As you may be wondering, yes this is the
main road into Barr. |

The view left is as you enter Barr past the church.
This village is popular with visitors looking for a quiet day out
in the car or for walking. For more information on the history of
Barr, events and hill walking, visit the website www.barrvillage.co.uk. |
Right is a view showing the Nick of
the Balloch on the narrow hill road between Barr and another small
peaceful village about 12 miles north, Straiton. It is hard to believe
that this spot is little over 10 miles from Girvan beach. The hill
road leads through the Galloway Forest past the Stinchar Falls and
Loch Braden. Click on the image right to enlarge. |

Left is a view of the B741 road leading from Straiton
past the church towards Crosshill and about 16 miles northwest to
Ayr. |
Right is a view of the main street in
Straiton with the Black Bull Inn being the most notable building,
ideal for refreshments. Straiton is a peaceful small village that
hasn't changed much in decades. For that reason, Straiton has been
used as the setting for films and TV adverts. The website below
gives more information on Straiton and the surrounding area that
is ideal for quite country drives and walking. www.maybole.org/community/straiton/straiton.htm.
