Star Pisces and her sister ship Star Aquarius were the Malaysian company Star Cruises first ships. These two sisters were originally built as supper ferries for the A.B. Slight part of the Viking Line named Athena and Kalypso. Athena entered service first in 1989 with Kalypso following a year later. As ferries, they were operated on Baltic Sea crossings between Stockholm/Sweden and Helsinki/Finland. A.B. Slight was declared bankrupt in 1993; this allowing Star Cruises to purchase both ships for conversion to cruise ships. The new owners renamed Kalypso - Star Pisces and Athena - Star Aquarius.

Since their conversion, they have 12 decks, 1 pool, 4 bars, casino, fitness center, showroom, 258 outside cabins, 340 inside cabins, can carry 1,196 passengers and a crew of 750.

Star Pisces is operated on two day and one night cruises out of Hong Kong - South China Seas and cruises out of Haikou/Hainan Island - Vietnams Halong Bay.

Star Aquarius was sold to Laem Chabang of Bangkok in 2001 to be based in Malaysia.
