This
ship was originally designed by American Classic Voyages. They
intended her to be the first large passenger ship in half a
century to be constructed in a U.S. shipyard. After the cruise
company filed bankruptcy Oct 19th 2001, leaving the ship partially
built at the Ingalls shipyard Mississippi, the Norwegian Cruise
Line bought the unfinished ship and barged its hull to the German
shipyard. A severe
storm in early 2004 at Lloyd Werft's Bremerhaven shipyard resulted
in Pride of America being flooded up to the third deck
and sinking to the bottom of an 11-meter deep water-bed, this
delaying her from entering service as intended in 2004.
Pride of America has 15 passenger
decks, 2 pools, 10 bars, 8 restaurants with the largest seating 628,
fitness center, 3 deck high theatre, 650 cabins with balconies, 178
cabins with ocean view, 203 inside cabins, can carry 2,146 passengers
and an all American crew of 1,100.
Pride
of America
is operated on 7 night cruises out of Honolulu to the other ports
in Hawaii such as Hilo, Maui, Kowa & Kauai.
