Superstar Leo
was the first of two cruise ships in this class built for Star
Cruises. Her sister ship Superstar Virgo entered
service in 1999. These two ships were the first new builds to
enter service for the ever-expanding Star Cruises.
This class
of cruise ship has 12 passenger decks, 2 pools, 8 bars, casino,
fitness center, 1,000-seat show room, 608 outside cabins with
162 having balconies, 374 inside cabins, can carry 1,964 passengers
and a crew of 1,100.
Superstar Leo
was operated on cruises from Hong Kong - Xiamen/China and from
Hong Kong - Hainan Island & Vietnam.
Superstar Virgo’s main route is from Singapore - Kuala
Lumpur, Langkawi Island & the island of Phuket off Thailand.
Star Cruises took over the Norwegian Cruise Line in March 2000.
They then ordered new large cruise ships for both lines. Part
of the agreement in this takeover was that the Norwegian Cruise
Line would continue operating under their original name.
Superstar Leo was transferred to the Norwegian Cruise
Line in 2004 to be operated under the name Norwegian Spirit.
She is now operated on 1,6,&8 night cruises out of New York
- Bermuda, Bahamas & New England. Seven night Western Caribbean
cruises depart from New Orleans.
