The Carnival Cruise Line ordered seven 101,353-ton Destiny
class cruise ships to enter service between 1996 and 2005. Carnival
Destiny then became the first passenger ship to exceed
the 83,676 tons of Cunards Queen Elizabeth built
in 1938. The next class of cruise ship ordered by Carnival was
this 86,000 ton Carnival Spirit class. There have been four
of these ships built for Carnival with Carnival Pride
entering service in 2002, Carnival Legend also
in 2002, and Carnival Miracle in 2004.
This type of vessel is also regarded as a Vista Class design
also seen in some Costa, Cunard, Holland America and P&O
ships.
This class
of cruise ship has 12 passenger decks, 3 pools, 12 bars, casino,
fitness center, 1,170 seat show lounge, 849 outside cabins with
682 having verandas, 213 inside cabins; can carry 2,124 passengers
and a crew of 1,029.
Spirit is operated
on 8 night cruises out of San Diego - Mexico, 7 night cruises
from Vancouver - Alaska, 12 night cruises from Vancouver - Hawaii,
and short cruises throughout Hawaii from Honolulu.
Pride’s
main route is 7 night cruises from Long Beach/ California
- Mexico.
Legend
is mainly operated out of Tampa on 7 night cruises - Caribbean,
and 8 night cruises from Fort Lauderdale - Caribbean.
Miracle is based at Tampa for 7 night cruises - Western
Caribbean, New York for 8 night cruises - Eastern Caribbean
& Fort Lauderdale for 8 night cruises - Southern Caribbean.
