Images and information on the Royal Troon Open Golf in 2016, that ran from the 10th – 17th July.

The image below is of the 464 yard par 4, 18th hole. The bunker here is at 307 yards off the tee. Playing short of the bunker leaves about 140 to the green. Knocking a long drive down the middle between the bunkers is risky, but can set up a good birdie chance. A good hole if you are one shot behind on the final day.

The centre of Glasgow is also a Good base for the golf, only 40 minutes away by inexpensive trains between Glasgow Central Station and Troon Station, with a number of inexpensive Hotels around Central Station. Glasgow Information.

The image below is of the 17th hole at Royal Troon with the Marine Hotel on the right. This is a 2018 yard par 3. A straight forward hole if there is little wind.

Troon Open 2016 image

The image below is of the 123 yard 8th named the Postage Stamp, claimed to be the shortest hole in Championship Golf.

This can be an easy par or birdie if you hit the small green. It can also be an easy 4, 5 or 6 if you miss the green. A great hole to sit at, but there are not a lot of seats here this year. Large Image.

The image below is of the Postage Stamp 8th green at Royal Troon. This green is close to the sea, so if it is windy, they will be knocking the balls out over the grandstand to hit the green. Large Image.

Henrik Stenson from Sweden won the Open with rounds of 68 65 68 63 = 264.

Phil Mickelson USA was second on 267, JB Holmes USA third on 278.
